GLEECERIN: Notational Models

University of Nevada, Las Vegas

Fall 2017

Critics: Alberto de Salvatierra

GLEEcerin is seeking to interrogate a subtractive analog means of design production. Glycerin is used as both a material and method for the creation of a notational site model that recorded experiential phenomena. Soap blocks are not a common material found in the architecture studio, but ultimately lent to playful explorations. The material is very dense, yet malleable and is a good medium to let light in with its translucency. Glycerin allows for light and transparency to join the discussion as immaterial elements and to make one think about more than just the physical components. It is one of thirteen selected “portmanteus” and has been a traveling art piece in “The Portmanteau Exhibit, part of the 2018 ACSA Fall Conference “Play with the Rules”. The installation has been exhibited at the Milwaukee Art Museum in the Walter Schroeder Foundation Galleria, the University of Colorado, Denver, and the Priscilla Fowler Fine Art Gallery in the heart of Downtown Las Vegas.
